My Rotorua
About This SiteMyrotorua.com promotes local information, civic participation and sustainable development in the Rotorua District. A joint initiative of the former Rotorua Community ICT Trust and Rotorua District Council - with support from the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust and a range of other organisations - the website was created in early 2008 and will continue to be developed over coming years. BackgroundDiscussions about an independent Rotorua community website began in 2003 at a public workshop on "computers in the community" hosted by Rotorua District Council. The website project began in 2006, led by the Rotorua Community ICT Trust as part of a broader inter-agency Rotorua District ICT Strategy. Funding support for the project was donated bv the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust. Organisations involved in initial discussions include the Rotorua Education Centre, Te Arawa Maori Trust Board (now Te Arawa Lakes Trust), Waiariki Institute of Technology, Rotorua youth interests (e.g. Rotorua Youth Centre, Rotorua Youth Projects Trust, Rotorua Youth Transition Service), Rotorua Social Services Council (ROSSCO) and Te Wananga o Aotearoa. One branch of these discussions was picked up by Rotorua youth stakeholders in 2007 and led to the Rotorua youth website www.rotaz.co.nz. Another branch relating to a 'local information portal' was driven by the Rotorua Community ICT Trust and converged with Rotorua District Council's desired for a community consultation tool for its Bright Future community well-being project. The result - this website - is scheduled to continue being developed in a partnering way over the coming years. The intention is that it will be promoted through agencies, schools and networks to promote a shared understanding of what "community well-being" means to Rotorua residents and enable them to have their say on important decisions at the District level.
