Who's doing what in Rotorua - BrightEconomy Strategy
The BrightEconomy Strategy, Rotorua's economic development strategy, was developed in 2004/05 through research and consultation with local business people and organisations. The plan allows for a more strategic, co-ordinated approach to economic development. A BrightEconomy Advisory Board was established to work alongside Destination Rotorua Economic Development to drive the implementation of the strategy. The Board includes a range of leading Rotorua business people. Current and past projects include:
- Analysis of options for locally generated energy supply.
- Survey of perceptions of Rotorua as a place to live, work, learn, invest and do business.
- Development of a marketing strategy to attract skilled employees and businesses to the District.
- Business case for the development of "New Zealand Sustainable Wood Futures Centre".
- Working with SCION to produce a regional "waste to gold" development plan.
- Business case for the development of a Natural Materials Innovation Centre.
- Report on water capacity for economic growth in the District.
- Economic analysis of alternative land use options available to land owners in the District.
- Campaign and funding access programme for research and development (R&D) in the District.
- Initial analysis and capability assessment of emerging water remediation technologies.
